While the general time requirements are the same over the world, there are some differences concerning the individual sections. In Germany (like in Ireland, for example) the "old system" is still in force – even if the International Record Book is used.

GENERAL

Minimum age to start

  1. Bronze: 14 years

  2. Silver: 15 years

  3. Gold: 16 years

Minimum length of time

  1. Bronze: 6 months

  2. Silver: 12 months (Bronze achieved: 6)

  3. Gold: 18 months (Silver achieved: 12)

SECTIONS

Old System (e.g. Germany)

New System (e.g. UK)

Bronze

  1. Service: 3 months

  2. Skills: 6 months

  3. Physical: 3 months

  4. Expedition: 2 days and 1 night

  1. Service: 3 months

  2. Skills: 3 months

  3. Physical: 3 months

  4. Expedition: 2 days and 1 night

  5. Plus another 3 months in the Service, Skills or Physical sections

Silver

  1. Service: 6 months

  2. Skills: 12 months (Bronze achieved: 6 months)

  3. Physical: 4 months

  4. Expedition: 3 days and 2 nights

  1. Service: 6 months

  2. Skills and Physical: one section for 6 months, and the other for 3 months

  3. Expedition: 3 days and 2 nights

  4. Direct entrants must undertake a further six months in either the Service or the longer of the Skills and Physical sections

Gold

  1. Service: 12 months

  2. Skills: 18 months (Silver achieved: 12 months)

  3. Physical: 5 months

  4. Residential: 5 days and 4 nights

  5. Expedition: 4 days and 3 nights

  1. Service: 12 months

  2. Skills and Physical: one section for 12 months, and the other for 6 months

  3. Expedition: 4 days and 3 nights

  4. Residential: 5 days and 4 nights

  5. Direct entrants must undertake a further six months in either the Service or the longer of the Skills and Physical sections
