Summer School

Erstellt am 2008/09/01, zuletzt geändert am 2011/04/23

In a time, in which the Award is developing rather quickly, Finland and Germany are looking together for new methods securing quality of the programme. One new instrument could be the "International Award Summer School" (IASS, cf. full description).

IASS is both a new

  • Way to train new Award Leaders (Leaders’ Course, Basic Expedition Training Course and special interests’ workshops combined in one seminar; time enough for "learning by doing" in all sections, …)

  • System of working together as national training teams (sharing experiences, methods and materials and training of trainers).

(International Special Projects Grant Application, 2004)

The Award – live!

IASS is more than just a couple of courses ABOUT the Award run in an international context. It IS the Award because you have all four sections live inside or around the different seminars:

  • Service: Participants are involved in duties like providing food, preparing lunch and cleaning the kitchen (self-supply).

  • Adventure: Both the Award Leaders Course and the Expedition Supervisors Course involve a tour into the countryside. Also, daily team building exercises are providing a spirit of adventure.

  • Skills: Participants prepare an exhibition with their own Award materials and can take part in different skills workshops.

  • Physical Recreation: Every day the programme includes a practical sports lesson. Also, there are physical activities workshops.

Target Groups of the International Award Summer School

  • Already trained Award Trainers, who would like to deepen their knowledge and practise in an international context by acting as one of the Summer School's leaders.

  • Experienced Award Leaders, who want to use it as a "learning by doing" Train the Trainers course.

  • New Award Leaders, who want to get trained comprehensively through the different Leaders' courses in English.

  • Gold Award participants, who would like to take part in an international Residential Project and/or to become young Award Leaders.

  • Adult Award newcomers of all ages, who want to get an all-embracing introduction.
